Overview

Are you motivated to make a difference in the lives of two (2) total individuals with disabilities and complex medical needs? Are you seeking an alternative to working in an acute hospital or skilled nursing facility where you have a revolving and potentially overwhelming caseload? ResCare is seeking Full-time and Part-Time Respiratory Therapists to provide respiratory care and support to two (2) total individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a beautiful home-like setting.

Responsibilities

  • Be knowledgeable of and ensure adherence to all applicable local, state, and federal licensing requirements and regulations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with the provision of care to individuals with disabilities using a ventilator and needing Tracheostomy care.
  • Make recommendations for respiratory objectives/criteria to address needs identified through comprehensive respiratory/health assessments and evaluations.
  • May be responsible for completing respiratory medication administration.
    Report changes in health status and pertinent information to attending Director of Nursing, physician, other health professionals, and IDT members as needed and in a timely manner.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating respiratory, pharmacy, infection control, and health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Arrange for and ensure completion of specialist, doctor, and follow-up appointments. Work in conjunction with staff in other departments to ensure medical/respiratory needs are monitored and communicated and medical appointments are scheduled.
  • Check program/service area on a frequent, but not less than monthly basis (or established area guidelines), to ensure the necessary medical/respiratory supplies are available and in ample supply.
  • Coordinate hospital admissions, discharges, and follow-up appointments. Monitor and report communicable diseases, work closely with appropriate staff as needed.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely documentation of respiratory/health assessments and evaluations.
  • Ensure the routine documentation of individual’s health status in respiratory therapist notes.
  • Ensure furnishings and equipment are maintained within guidelines established to prevent the spread of disease. Ensures the overall implementation and practice of infection control procedures.
  • Know and adhere to the agency's policies on Client Rights. Be able to interpret them to clients and or family members. Interact with each client as an individual, with dignity and respect.
  • Assist in the orientation, training and mentoring of other staff as needed.
  • Adhere to agency policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Currently licensed as a Respiratory Therapist (RT) in good standing
  • Valid driver’s license from state of residence
  • One year experience working with the developmentally disabled preferred
  • Must be fingerprinted and receive a criminal record clearance
  • Possess computer skills or is trainable to learn company computer system
